About The IEEE-USA Innovation Institute

Mission: To offer programs to advance the preparation of leaders responsible for the innovation of new products and services by sharing the experiences of successful innovators in a coordinated program of interaction, mentoring and networking.
The IEEE-USA Innovation Initiative is part of IEEE-USA’s response to rising global competition. It provides resources and inspiration to IEEE members in the U.S. to help them be more innovative and competitive in the global market place.
We consider innovation to extend from invention, through R&D, design, development, production and delivery. The presentations cover the human resource aspects of the processes, and the legal and policy issues that are related.
Institute Goals:
-
Enhance the ability of engineers and computer scientists to respond to opportunities to integrate new and existing technologies to meet new customer driven markets.
-
Develop the ability of technologically oriented managers to refine R&D and production processes and environments to enhance invention and innovation.
-
Provide educators the opportunity to develop and share innovative approaches.
-
Access the wealth of experience in successful innovations available through members of the IEEE.
Planned Innovation Institute Programs:
Institute Forums: Workshops focused on specific aspects of the innovation process. The forums will target urban areas with large concentrations of technology related businesses and academic institutions as particularly viable venues. Four lead Institute faculty, deemed Institute Associates, will each run a specific forum of two days duration and four individual sessions. Each Associate leads a session, consisting of tutorials and breakout sessions, with panel driven summaries and discussions, and utilizing case-study methodology.
Innovation Network: Innovation Forum registrants and other involved individuals will be invited to enroll in the Institute’s on-line Innovation Network, where they can interact with each other and with the Institute Associates, Advisors and Staff. The Innovation Network will be a web based interactive mentoring and networking discussion program supported by the established IEEE Virtual Community tool. It will serve to further connect the membership with the findings and results of all the Forums, and the continually evolve the Forum curricula.
Innovation Library: All participants and Associates will have the opportunity to access a web-based clearinghouse of innovation resources, including a catalog and description of the increasing body of courses in reviewed degree programs and workshops globally which focus on innovation, as well as web accessible programs.
National Innovation Conference: Beginning in 2009, we plan to convene a national conference on a biennial basis focused on all aspects of innovation. It will include tutorials, invited paper sessions, open paper sessions and panels, focusing on national innovation policy, and likely to be held in Washington DC to be available to important government policy leaders.
